Creating a muted room in your home can be an effective way to achieve a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Whether you want a bedroom that's perfect for a good night's sleep or a living room where you can unwind after a long day, a muted room could be the solution. Here, we'll go through some tips and advice on how you can create a muted room using color and wallpaper.
The key to creating a muted room lies in the color choice. Soft, subdued shades such as gray, beige, light blue, and green are excellent choices for creating a soothing atmosphere. Avoid bright, vivid colors that can be too stimulating and instead disrupt the relaxing feeling you want to achieve. By choosing colors from the same color family or tone-on-tone, you create a harmonious and cohesive look in your muted room.
Another aspect to consider when choosing colors for a muted room is the light. If the room has a lot of natural light, you can dare to go for slightly darker shades, while a room with limited light intake can benefit from lighter tones to avoid feeling too dark and confined. Feel free to experiment with different color samples to see how they behave in your particular room at different times of the day.
Wallpaper is an excellent way to create ambiance in a muted room. Choose wallpapers with calm, subtle patterns or textures that contribute to the relaxing atmosphere. Tone-on-tone patterns, soft stripes, or discreet botanical motifs can all work well in a muted room. Avoid too lively or contrasting patterns that can become too dominant and detract from the soothing effect.
The material of the wallpaper can also play a role in the feel of a muted room. Textile wallpapers or wallpapers with a soft, velvety surface can contribute to a cozy and inviting atmosphere. These wallpapers can also help to dampen sound, which is a bonus in a room intended for relaxation and tranquility.
To maximize the effect of a muted room, you can combine carefully selected colors with well-chosen wallpapers. A neutral color palette on the walls can be complemented with a wallpaper with a discreet pattern on an accent wall to create interest without overwhelming. Alternatively, you can paint larger areas in a subdued shade and use a solid color wallpaper in a nearby tone to create depth and dimension in the room.
No matter which combination you choose, the key to a successful muted room is to create a balance and harmony between colors and patterns. By choosing elements that complement each other and contribute to an overall soothing atmosphere, you can create a space that is perfect for relaxation and recovery.
